Ergo

In art class,
when the form would not come right,
my teacher told me to pay attention to
the negative space.
I was to draw what is not there,
in order to better align what is.
How beautifully clear then everything became!
There was a world alive between the lines,
and I could see the leaves within the shapes
they left behind.
